Mike offers private and group lessons to students of all ages and genres in piano, guitar, voice, drums, bass guitar, ukulele, accordion, music theory, and composition.
All lessons are tailored to the goals and needs of each student, whether they want to play their favorite songs for fun, jam with friends, or become serious musicians.
Mike’s unique approach to music instruction also features group rock band classes, group ukulele/guitar/vocal classes, as well as frequent performance opportunities for students - semiannual in-person concerts, and quarterly online Zoom concerts.
Mike began studying piano at the age of 5, competing in classical piano competitions throughout his childhood. He began playing guitar and drums, composing, singing, and playing in bands at age 12. Since then he has performed thousands of shows across North America and Europe in groups ranging from rock, pop, and metal to classical, Celtic, Latin, and jazz.
He began teaching at age 14, starting with his neighbors, and developed an early passion for teaching and bringing music to his community. By age 18 he was fully booked with students in his hometown of Prince Rupert before leaving to Vancouver, BC for music school. Having taught over 300 students in his 25 years of teaching, Mike can have complete beginner's performing a song by the first lesson, can quickly help advanced players master challenging repertoire, and can contribute a ton of creative ideas to students' songwriting and performance of original or cover songs.
Mike has obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition from the University of British Columbia, a Performer’s ARCT Diploma in piano from The Royal Conservatory of Music, and a Piano Diploma from Capilano University.
Mike currently performs over 100 shows a year throughout North America as lead singer-guitarist for Celtic-rock-party band The Whiskeydicks, as a solo singer-guitarist-pianist, and as the pianist-guitarist-arranger for classical crossover group Vivace. He is also the founder, lead singer, guitarist, pianist, and composer for his own symphonic-rock-fusion project, The Living, who have recently released their 4th album.
After 4 years in LA's music industry, Mike now resides in beautiful Point Roberts with his wife and their two Great Dane children, Mo and Lily (yes, lessons are dog-friendly!)
"...guitarist/keyboardist Mike Bell pulls down some mad double-duty...vocal dexterity displayed throughout...Bell’s fluid lead vocals...pull off what is one of the harder classic-rock sounds to cover" - Stuart Derdeyn, The Vancouver Sun
